The 82nd Academy Awards ended Sunday night with Jeff Bridges, Sandra Bullock and Kathryn Bigelow taking home the golden statues. The ceremonies took place at the Kodak Theater in L.A.

Los Angeles, United States - Jeff Bridges won the award for Best Actor for his role in the movie Crazy Heart at the 82nd Academy Awards. Sandra Bullock won for Best Actress for her role as a feisty housewife in the movie The Blind Side, while Katryn Bigelow won the award for Best Director for directing the movie Hurt Locker.

The highly acclaimed sci-fi movie Avatar lost to Hurt Locker as Best Picture. Avatar was directed by Canadian James Cameron who is the former husband of Hurt Locker director Kathryn Bigelow.

"This really is, there's no other way to describe it, the moment of a lifetime," said Bigelow, only the fourth woman ever to be nominated for the best director award by Academy voters.

"I'd like to dedicate this to the women and men in the military who risk their lives in a daily basis in Iraq and Afghanistan and around the world," Bigelow added. "May they come home safe."

Bridges who was nominated best actor four times in the past finally bagged an Oscar.

"Thank you mom and dad for turning me on to such a groovy profession," said a delighted Bridges, who had earlier welled up with tears after a moving tribute from Michelle Pfeiffer.

Bullock who was just crowned the "Worst Dressed Actress" at the Razzies on Saturday dedicated her Oscar win to "the moms that take care of babies and children no matter where they come from."

The Razzies are a spoof of the Oscars that salute the worst part of every film.

Bullock was reportedly delighted to win a worst-of and best-of award on the same weekend.
